May Day Riots In Berlin

By

A peaceful May Day demonstration by leftwing youth organizations in Berlin on Tuesday degenerated into massive riots and clashes with police.

The organizers of the tens of thousands-strong procession initially planned to march towards the city center, only to see the road closed by police. The angry youths then staged a rally and went on a rampage burning waste containers and upturning a police booth.

Police moved in encircling the protesters who responded by lobbing empty bottles at the law enforcers. Several people were arrested. The rally is still on with people refusing to go home.
