Hamas, Iran Deny Any Connection To Israeli Raid In Sudan
Ismail al-Askar, a deputy in the Palestinian Legislative Council from Hamas has dismissed news reports about the injury and the targeting of his nephew, Abdul Latif Al-Ashkar in a car bombing which took place two days in Sudan by an Israeli aircraft.
Al-Ashkar said that Abdul Latif was in a good condition and was not hurt. He said the reports were “unfounded.”
Speaking to al-Arabiya channel reported that Abd al-Latif Al-Ashkar is a Hamas leader responsible for sensitive security files and replaced Mahmoud al Mabhouh, who was assassinated in Dubai early 2010.
The channel said Al-Ashkar was among the two dead in Tuesday air attack in the city of Port Sudan.
For his part, Vice-Chairman of the political bureau of Hamas, Mousa Abu Marzouk told an Arabic newspaper that martyrs in Sudan are not Palestinians and Hamas has nothing to do with its.
Meanwhile, Iranian sources in Damascus said that martyrs had nothing to do with Iran. They referred to Sudanese media reports saying the two victims were Sudanese.
According to various news reports, the two dead were linked to arms trafficking activities. On Wednesday, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Ahmed Karti accused Israel of being behind the raid. He said Sudan does not understand why Israel carried out the raid.
