The sources said that among the dead was the son of the Yemeni President, Ali Ahmed Saleh, who was in command of the Republican Guard before his uncle. This means the end of the “inheritance dream” by President Saleh who was thought to be grooming his son to lead Yemen after his departure.

The sources conveyed that the brother of President Ali Abdullah Saleh decided to revenge after Saleh killed his son in the past and dismissed him from the army, before being allowed to go out to America where he became a businessman. Later, President Ali Saleh invited him to return to Yemen, and handed him a month ago, the leadership of the Republican Guard, but it seems that his main concern was to avenge the death of his son.

Also killed in the attack the interior minister, the presidential adviser for national security, the intelligence chief, the commander of special units guarding the presidential palace and a number of other political and security officials.
