Libya First Country To Recognize Syrian National Council

By

The Libyan Transitional National Council Monday officially recognized the Syrian opposition National Council and decided the closure of the Syrian embassy in Tripoli. Thus, Libya became the first country to announce its recognition in the Syrian body which was established two weeks ago in Istanbul.

This comes this one day after the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem time threatened to take “strict measures” against governments who will recognize the Syrian Council. The European Union also praised the Syrian National Council, saying it is considered a step in the efforts of resolving the crisis in Syria.

Meanwhile, the Mufti of Syria Ahmad Badr Eddin Hassoun, has warned the West of over attack on his country, saying Damascus will respond by suicide bombing attacks. He also accused the “Zionist” of creating strife in the region.

The Mufti was speaking in a video posted on YouTube during his meeting with a delegation of Lebanese figures. Hassoun, whose son was assassinated last week, vowed Europe and the United States of preparing “suicide bombers” to launch “eye for eye, tooth for a tooth” attacks.
