IBIL And Renault-Nissan Alliance Promote Electric Car Use

By

Ibil and the Renault-Nissan Alliance today signed a memorandum of understanding to encourage the use of electric cars. The programme will be launched initially in the Basque Country and could later be extended throughout Spain.

The memorandum has been signed by Enrique Monasterio, Managing Director of Ibil, Jean-Pierre Laurent, Chief Executive Officer of Renault España and Javier Redondo, manager of the zero-emissions project by Nissan Iberia, S.A. The objective is to take advantage of Ibil’s experience in providing charging services for electric vehicles in households and companies by installing charging points approved by the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The Executive Director of New Energy and Repsol Refining Spain, Josu Jon Imaz and EVE’s Managing Director, José Ignacio Hormaeche also attended this ceremony.

The Ibil charging point is a system that enables electric vehicles to be recharged in line with all safety and reliability guarantees. It has been designed specifically so that it can only be used with electric vehicles and will be permanently connected to the Ibil Control Centre to monitor charging, identify users and attend to possible incidents.

Work is also being carried out on other projects, such as the development of fast charging points, facilities for changing batteries in public places, services for accessing electricity when travelling abroad and the creation of a network of sales points for electric vehicle users.

The memorandum is part of Ibil’s aim to develop sustainable, environmentally-friendly charging services and Renault-Nissan’s zero-emissions strategy. This service adds to the growth of charging points in public places which Ibil is currently developing in the Basque Country. Ibil also certifies that all the electrical energy supplied to the vehicles is 100% renewable.

IBIL

Repsol and the Basque Energy Agency created Ibil in October 2010, each owning a 50% share. The aim of the company is to design, construct and operate a network of integrated services for electric transport in the Basque Country, making up a network of 125 points by the end of 2011.
