Syria: Apolostic Nuncio Urges ‘Stop Race Toward Abyss’

“We hope that human reason will prevail and that the senseless race toward the abyss will end” said, from his office in Damascus, Monsignor Mario Zenari, Apostolic Nuncio to Syria, to MISNA, expressing concerns at the end of yet another day tensions in the country.
“The situation is certainly tense, but we must not lose hope,” added the Vatican representative, stressing that even in difficult times “we must not despair, continuing to seek room for dialogue.”
At this moment, observed the Nuntio, “the role of the international community is more important than ever to try to conduct a mediation in the interests of the Syrian people and the entire region.”
