Sri Lankan President in Bangladesh to Boost Ties

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa is in Bangladesh on a visit aimed at strengthening ties and trade between the two countries.

On Monday, Mr. Rajapaksa met with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka.

Officials from both countries also signed agreements in the areas of trade, agriculture, fisheries, education and culture.

Trade between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka has grown steadily in recent years, with Sri Lanka a major supplier of dyed yarn for the apparel industry in Bangladesh.

Both countries are also actively involved in the region as members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation or SARC.

President Rajapaksa arrived in Bangladesh on Monday for a three-day visit.
