Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Iran is awaiting a response from the West in order to continue nuclear negotiations.

On the sidelines of D-8 meeting in Nigeria, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Friday: “Iran has always supported talks but some Western countries consistently break off the course of dialogue and rather than resorting to logic, choose the path of threats.”

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad went on to say that Iran is ready for negotiations and is waiting for the West to announce its decision regarding the conditions Iran has set for the continuance of talks.

One of the conditions Ahmadinejad has set for continuing talks with the West is for them to announce their stance regarding Israel’s “atomic arsenals.”

The other conditions include announcing whether the talks will follow NPT regulations, announcing the objective of the talks and finally a change in the composition of the negotiators.

These conditions were also forwarded by Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili to Catherine Ashton, EU Foreign Policy chief.

On June 9, 2010, the UN Security Council passed a new resolution to impose fresh sanctions on Iran in order to “rein in” its nuclear activities.

The US, Australia, Japan, EU and a number of other countries have go on to impose their own unilateral sanctions on Iran on top of the UN resolution.

While the West accuses Iran of lack of transparency in its nuclear activities, Iran consistently claims its nuclear programs are completely peaceful.
