VOA Website Hacked By Iranian Cyber Army

By

The website of the Voice of America (VOA) has been hacked by a what appears to be a pro-Iranian government group, claiming to be the “Iranian Cyber Army”. At the time of this writing (23:34 CET) the website had been hacked for at least a half hour.

In December 2009 the Iranian Cyber Army was credited with hacking the popular social networking site Twitter.

According to the Iranian opposition website The Green Voice of Freedom, the Iranian Cyber Army was “first suspected of being connected to the government after hacking into certain Green Movement websites and posting threatening messages aimed at the Movement.

“Although there is no admitted and proven link between the group and Iranian authorities the scale and nature of their activities rules out the possibility that it is run by a group of zealous ‘Ahmadinejad loyalists.’ The websites that the Army chooses to hack, in addition to the messages posted on the websites’ homepages strengthens the idea that other hidden hands are also involved in attacking the Green Movements’ websites,” according to GVF.

The website on the Voice of America has the message:

“Mrs Clinton Do you want to hear the voice of the oppressed nations will from heart of USA?”

“Islamic world doesn’t believe USA trickery”

“We call on you to stop interfering in Islamic countries.”

Voice of America (VOA) is the official external radio and television broadcasting service of the United States federal government. Its oversight entity is the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG). VOA provides a wide range of programming for broadcast on radio, TV and the Internet around the world in forty-four languages, promoting a positive view of the United States.

Despite the web-attack, a Google News search doesn’t show a single story reporting the VOA website hack.

At the same time, the Iranian Cyber Army left a message on the VOA website claiming responsibility for hacking a long list of other sites, many of which appear to be related to the VOA:
