Yemen: VP Confirms Saleh Left For US

Yemeni Vice President Lt.-Gen Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi confirmed that President Ali Abdullah Saleh left here Sunday evening for Oman en route to the United States for treatment.

President Saleh’s trip was the focus of a phone conversation initiated this evening by John Brennan, assistant to the US president for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, to Vice President Hadi, Yemen News Agency (SABA) reported.

The US senior official extended President Barack Obama’s congratulations on the procedures taken by the Yemeni parliament to implement the initiative of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for solving the Yemeni crisis and in compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 2014.

Brennan said that President Obama has stressed that the US will provide political and economic support to Yemen to get out of the current circumstances and crisis, according to the report.

He added that the United States will continue joint action with Yemen in the combat against terrorism and help preserve Yemen’s security, stability and unity.

For his part, the Vice President Hadi expressed gratitude to President Obama for his support to Yemen and for hosting President Saleh.
