Syria: Security Forces Kill Four People In Coastal Town

Four people died and several others were injured Sunday in clashes with between Syrian protesters and security forces in the town of Jable near Latakia in northwestern Syria.

According to a spokesman for the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in London, after the new governor visited the town, security forces surrounded the city and began firing.

Until this incident in Jable, there had been no reports of casualties on Sunday after two bloody days over the weekend which saw the killing of at least 120 protesters again the regime of President Bashar al Assad.

With these four deaths, the death toll since the start of the protest movement on March 15 rose to 352 dead, according to figures obtained by AFP.

Shortly after the announcement of the deaths in Jable, some 3,000 residents of Banias, a town located about 50 km from Latakia, organized a demonstration in solidarity on the road linking Latakia to Damascus, sources said. The demonstrators called for the cessation of firing by security forces in Jable.
