Sri Lanka Govt Has Right To Know NGO Spending – Rajapaksa

By

It is the right and responsibility of the government to monitor how Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) obtain funds and how they are spent, stated President Mahinda Rajapaksa during a meeting with the editors of print and electronic media Friday at Temple Trees, according to a statement.

Rajapaksa said that many millions of rupees come into the country on a monthly and yearly basis and currently there is no mechanism to monitor from where they come from and how these funds are utilized.

According to the government website, Rajapaksa, citing India as an example, added that almost no other country in the world allows organizations to bring large amounts of money into the country and spend them on projects of their own without any monitoring by the government.

“Therefore, the government intends to work out a suitable policy to monitor their activities,” Rajapaksa said.

He pointed out that specific guidelines are needed for NGOs to obtain funds through the correct methods and spend in a correct manner. Rajapaksa emphasized that this is not an anti-NGO policy but a valid mechanism to ensure that the people benefit through such funds.

Joining the discussion, Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella said that such unmonitored fund inflows could even lead to money laundering, which is now a growing global concern.

Great Sri! Why you stopped with Tsunami funding only. As a President of a democratic coutry he is reponsible for the murders of jounalists, Membe rof Parliament and massacre of innocent civilians. Other democracies are looking for his answer. The world community have the why he is hiding behind China? Once he answer their questions he could question the NGO.

This Man is known as Tsunami Hora ( Robber) in the local circles.
He not only stole most of the tsunami relief donation but also most of the money donated by all the countries for the war affected North East.
His brother is known as MR 10% , Whatever the money goes through him, He takes 10% cut. These brothers are looting all the wealth just like his buddy Libyan dictator Gadaphi who thinks the country is his own property.

It is hard to believe this man is ordered the army to slaughter more than 40.000 Tamils during the last pace of the war. The whole world knows that but no one wants to do anything to bring these killers to justice.
