Yemen: UAE Blocks Attempt To Smuggle 16,000 Guns From Turkey

Dubai police in the UAE foiled an attempt to smuggle 16,000 guns from Turkey to Yemen, the emirates police chief Dahi Khalfan said in a press conference, according to Yemen state news agency SABA.

Khalfan said that the smugglers were arrested, including six Arabs residing in the UAE, noting the shipment was destined for Saada, northern Yemen, according to the report.

Stopping  in Dubai, the shipment had arrived from Turkey passing by an Egyptian port on its way to Yemen, the same report said, adding the UAE official confirmed that the arms shipment were stopped in a container shipped by sea to Dubai.

The report said the guns were manufactured in Turkey.

Investigations showed that suspects include “Erfan”, the owner of the factory where guns were made and another person called “Faeq” who was responsible for organizing shipment of the guns from Turkey to a port in the Gulf, reported SABA.
