Yemen: Government Rules Out Power Transfer

By

Yemen’s deputy information minister on Sunday rejected any transfer of power as long as injured President Ali Abdullah Saleh remains in Saudi Arabia.

“Our moral values do not allow us to discuss a transfer of power as the president lies on his sick bed” in Riyadh, Abdo al-Janadi told AFP.

In Saleh’s absence, Vice President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi has come under growing pressure from the opposition and the West to assume power. “The president is in good health. He is recovering but his discharge from hospital will be decided by his doctors,” said Janadi.

There were also some reports that the president will make a his first public appearance since he was wounded earlier this month.
