Macedonia Parliament Fined For Smoking Violations

By

(RFE/RL) — State smoking inspectors have fined Macedonia’s parliament after they found used ashtrays in the building.

Macedonia’s labor inspectorate said in a statement that in addition to a 5,000 euro fine, it had ordered the assembly’s lounge and restaurant to close for two weeks over breaches of an indoor smoking ban.

The statement said inspectors on November 24 found overflowing ashtrays in parts of the building used by lawmakers and parliament staff, but caught nobody in the act.
