US President Barack Obama had to cancel some of his campaign events on Monday and Tuesday due to the approaching hurricane, the CNN quoted White House spokesman Jay Carney as saying.
The US leader will “return to the White House to continue to monitor Hurricane Sandy, which is currently forecast to make landfall along the Eastern seaboard,” Carney said as quoted by the CNN.
According to forecasters, Sandy, whose Caribbean death toll rose to 58 on Saturday, is expected to make U.S. landfall on Monday night or Tuesday morning.
The BBC reported that US Republican candidate Mitt Romney also canceled a campaign event planned for Sunday in Virginia.
