Iraq: 43 Killed, 96 Injured In Provincial Council Attack

Salahuddin Province announced the end of the terrorist attacks against the Salahuddin Provincial Council headquarters in Tikrit, confirming death toll of 43 Iraqis.

The Council accused Al-Qaeda for the attack.

Ahmad Abdul Jabbar, deputy governor of Salahuddin Province said the joint security forces managed to break into the provincial council building, killing all the attackers hours after they stormed into the building.

Abdul Jabbar said that the terrorists stormed the provinvial building at 1: 00 p.m. local time, and were heavily armed with wear explosive belts.

They killed staff and customers, until they were surrounded by security forces that killed them all, he added.

Senior officials were able to leave the site, among them head of the Provincial Council as well as a number of members and civilians.
The last confirmed deat toll to the incident reached 43 deaths, and 96 injuries.

Among the casualities were policemen.

Abdul Jabbar accused Al-Qaeda and The Islamic State of Iraq for the terrorist behavior.

Specialized US and Iraqi forces have contributed to storm the building, while imposing a curfew in the city of Tikrit.
