Growing Crisis Between Egypt And Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has decided to recall its ambassador to Egypt and to close its embassy in Cairo and its consulates in Alexandria and Suez. The Saudi envoy on Sunday left Cairo because of “unjustified” protests in front of the Saudi diplomatic missions in Egypt
Saudi sources mentioned “attempts to invade these missions and threat their Saudi and Egyptian employees.” “Hostile slogans were chanted and the immunity of diplomatic missions has been violated, contrary to all international rules,” added the spokesman for Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry.
The demonstrations and the violence led to the interruption of diplomatic and consular activities, including the issuing of travel and labor permits for Egyptians by Saudi Arabia.
The crisis between the two Arab states started on Tuesday after the arrest of an Egyptian lawyer in Jeddah while carrying out an Umrah (minor pilgrimage).
