Ukraine Investigates Tymoshenko In Murder Case

By

(RFE/RL) — A senior Ukrainian prosecutor says authorities are investigating whether imprisoned former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was involved in a contract-style killing, AP reports.

The announcement was made in a televised statement late on October 28 by Deputy Prosecutor-General Renat Kuzmin.

Kuzmin said prosecutors are investigating claims that Tymoshenko was involved in the murder of a lawmaker and businessman in 1996.

Tymoshenko’s office denied the new allegations.

Earlier this month, Tymoshenko was sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of abuse of office.

Western nations criticized Tymoshenko’s jailing as politically motivated.
