Pakistani court bars Davis handover to US authorities

A Pakistani court on Tuesday issued stay order aginst the handing over of an American diplomat, who killed three Pakistni citizens, to the US and ordered to put his name in the Exit Control List (ECL.

The Chief Justice Lahore High Court also maintained that only the court would decide whether Raymond enjoys diplomatic immunity or not. Raymound Davis shot dead two motorcyclists and another person was also killed after being hit by his car in eastern Lahore city.

Earlier, it was reported that the killed were criminals and the diplomats acted in self-defense. However, postmortem report said that they were shot from back, leaving doubts over their purported robbery intentions. He has been remanded in police custody for six days.

The US embassy has stressed that the diplomats arrest is a “violation of international norms and the Vienna Convention, to which Pakistan is a signatory”.

However, the President on Monday said that the court will decide about his immunity.
