Egypt Football Body Suspends Premier League After Bloody Riots

Chairman of Egypt’s football federation Sameer Zaher announced an open-ended suspension of the premier league after riots that followed a match between Al-Ahly and Al-Masry Wednesday that left 73 people dead and scores injured.

Speaking to Al-Ahly Club TV channel, Zaher said a fact-finding committee would be formed to investigate the bloody riots that took place in Port Said City.

Egyptian TV said prosecutor general Justice Mahmoud Abdulmajeed ordered an investigations into the riots.

Meanwhile, the Grand Mufti Dr. Ali Jumaa also called for probing the riots which left some 150 people injured.

Jumaa described the incident as “massacre and a catastrophe,” and said these incidents were banned from a legal and Islamic views.
