Georgia: PM Kvirikashvili Set To Chair Ruling GDDG Party

By

(Civil.Ge) — Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia (GDDG), the largest party in the GD ruling coalition, has named PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili as its chairman to be confirmed at the party congress scheduled this spring.

Kvirikashvili’s predecessor in PM’s office, Irakli Garibashvili was the chair of GDDG, which was founded by ex-PM Bidzina Ivanishvili, but he quit the party and its chairmanship when he stepped down as PM in December.

“Giorgi Kvirikashvili has become a member of the GDDG,” party’s general secretary and energy minister, Kakha Kaladze, said after a meeting of GDDG’s main decision-making body on January 30.

“The political council has unanimously named Giorgi Kvirikashvili as a candidate for party chairmanship; the new chairman will be elected at the party congress in spring,” he added.
