Russia: Rescuers Save 85 Fishermen From Ice Floe

Rescuers saved 85 fishermen stranded on an ice floe off Russia’s Far Eastern Sakhalin Island on Sunday, the region’s emergencies service said.

Earlier today it was reported that some 400 people were carried away on an ice floe. The ice floe is currently 500-600 meters away from the main pack.

A rescue effort is underway to save about 315 fishermen. The rescue effort involves 22 people and eight vehicles. A Mi-8 helicopter is also taking part.
