Iraq: Industry Minister Survives Assassination Attempt

Iraqi Minister of Industry and Minerals Ahmed Nassir Al Karbuli has survived an assassination attempt by unidentified gunmen in the western province of Anbar, a source in the country’s security forces told RIA Novosti on Sunday.
The attack was launched early on Sunday on the road leading from Baghdad to the Syrian border, the source said.
“The minister’s car and his motorcade were ambushed. After a roadside bomb explosion, the militants opened fire on the motorcade. In a shootout, one of the security guards was killed and four others wounded. The minister was unhurt in the attack,” the source said.
The Anbar province was for a long time a major stronghold of the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization.
