Lebanon: Nine Dead In Hizbullah Stronghold Blast
At least nine people were killed and seven injured in a series of explosions Wednesday in an area controlled by the Shiite Hizbullah group in eastern Lebanon, said a security official. Residents told AFP a stockpile of weapons exploded in the Bekaa.
But the security officer spoke about several explosions without specifying the reason. According to the head of the security services, at least four Syrian workers were among the wounded. Three of them were cultivating the land behind the building where the explosion occurred.
According to residents, a powerful explosion occurred in a building under construction, which likely houses a stockpile of weapons in a non-residential area between villages of Nabichit and Khodr. Both villages are in the Bekaa region, a stronghold of the Lebanese party backed by the Syrian and Iranian regimes.
Dozens of ambulances rushed to site, which was encircled by and Hizbullah members.
