The bloodshed came as demonstrators staged a rally to demand the departure of Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

According to AFP, eyewitnesses said the demonstrators stormed the courtyard of the governorate and that plainclothes gunmen opened fire to push them back.

Yesterday, another protester was shot dead in Taez.

In a similar clash, a dozen of people were shot and injured late on Sunday as police clashed with tens of thousands of demonstrators in the western city of Hudaydah, according to witnesses.
