Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari reiterated Tuesday the strong commitment of the Islamic Republic of
Iran to maintain the security of the Strait of Hormuz, southeast the Arabian Gulf.

Addressing reporters, Sayyari said the war games, the Iranian Naval Force conducted so far, proved that Iran was capable of providing security in the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean.

“The Iranian Naval Force is ready to play an active role in the international waters,” the military commander affirmed, noting that the navy commandoes have recently managed to capture 12 pirates in the Indian Ocean, 3,000 km away from Iran’s territorial waters.

The incident took place when the pirates tried to kidnap an Iranian cargo ship heading from Idnia to Bandar Abbas seaport, southwest Iran in the last few days, he added.
