Sahrawis Extend ‘Peace Offer’ To Morocco, Renew Push For Western Sahara Independence
Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Salem Ould Salek affirmed Friday that the Sahrawi people are making an offer of peace to Morocco to end its occupation of Western Sahara.
“The Sahrawi people and leaders want that the Moroccan regime stops this adventure which cost Morocco and all the region a lot,” said the Sahrawi minister in a statement to APS on the sidelines of the funeral of Sahrawi President Mohamed Abdelaziz.
“The Sahrawi people are making an offer of peace on the basis of justice and respect of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination,” he said.
“The Sahrawi people and the Polisario Front are determined to continue their struggle until the total liberation of the Sahrawi territories and the end of the Moroccan occupation,” said Ould Salek, underlining that the Sahrawi people “are today saying their farewells to a great man and valiant military leader who led great battles and showed to the Moroccan forces that they could not defeat the Sahrawi forces.”
“Late Mohamed Abdelaziz vested the Sahrawi people with a heavy responsibility after the progress achieved in favour of the Sahrawi cause as the world today doesn’t recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and totally supports the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination,” he added.
This is not an offer. It’s an ultimatum. UNSC resolutions call for a negotiated political settlement, not a restatement of a failed referendum initiative, which is Mohamed Abdelaziz’ true legacy – no peace, no future for Sahrawis in the camps.
