Hungarian Revolution: Orban Says ‘No!’ To Brussels Migration Plan – OpEd

By

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has emerged as the leader of the pro-sovereignty opposition to the dictates of the EU’s Brussels bureaucrats. When German Chancellor Angela Merkel swung open Germany’s doors to hundreds of thousands of migrants (mostly from places “liberated” by Germany’s ally, Washington), Orban quickly saw the disaster that was coming and rushed to defy Brussels and build a border fence at lightning speed.

When Brussels told Budapest that it had to take in its “fair share” of migrants flooding Europe thanks to Germany’s promises of asylum and lots of free things, Orban told the Euro-crats to take a hike, that he would solve the problem democratically by holding a referendum to see what Hungarian citizens wanted.

That cloud over Brussels was in fact steam from the ears of the EU’s ruling elites, who are not accustomed to being defied.

And then things began going very badly indeed for the Eurocrats, who had miscalculated in spectacular fashion.

Merkel’s Europe is becoming a nightmare, where no one seems safe from the predations of the newly-arrived “guests.” Government-sponsored information booklets instructing new migrants that it is not polite to rape the locals quickly turned into “how-to” guides for raping the locals. Ten year old boys looking for a swim in local pools, soon found themselves on the receiving end of migrant “sex emergencies.”

Where Austrian leaders once called Orban a “Nazi” for putting the brakes on the tidal wave of migrants passing through Hungary, they soon found themselves so over-run that they were forced to put caps on migrants and institute Schengen-breaking border controls. Does foul-mouthed Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann believe he too is a Nazi for his panicked moves to protect Austria’s borders?

Today Viktor Orban took his defiance of Brussels to a whole new level, though. Today’s European summit of heads of government and state was supposed to rubber-stamp the latest blackmail demands of Turkey’s President Erdogan. Back in November the Turkish strongman (and ISIS ally) demanded that Brussels give him $3 billion to slow down the tidal wave of migrants into Europe. Today he expected to really cash in. He demanded another $6 billion and the abolition of EU visa requirements for Turkish citizens.

Erdogan had already prepared his domestic constituency by shutting down and taking over newspapers who dared to criticize his suicidal foreign policy. (The State Department somehow lost its tongue when the topic of Turkey’s grotesque persecution of the media came up.) He may have already alerted his Swiss banker of a major incoming “deposit.”

But Orban today ruined the party. He vetoed the deal. Like Michael Corleone with the corrupt Nevada Senator, Orban told Turkey, “my offer is this: nothing.” Brussels had a collective nervous breakdown.

Of course, Brussels being corrupt Brussels, there is little doubt that the midnight oil is currently being burned to see how they can get around Orban’s outrageous assertion of national interest and national sovereignty. No doubt they will find a way. But if only for the moment, it is worth cheering when one man stands up to a bully and says “no.”
