France And Russia Oppose Military Attack On Iran

By

French and Russian foreign ministers have announced their respective governments’ opposition to any military action against Iran.

The Associated Press reports that French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said today: “We must all cooperate to avoid irreversible military intervention in Iran.”

He said his government is awaiting the International Atomic Energy Agency report that’s set to be published tomorrow.

Russian News Agency Ria Novosti reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said any Israeli attack against Iran would be a grave mistake and could have unexpected outcomes.

Israeli President Shimon Peres announced on Saturday that “the military option against Iran is much closer.” He claimed intelligence services have told the government it has little time left to deal with Iran’s nuclear program, insisting that Israel is more inclined towards a military solution than a diplomatic one.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Ehud Barak have also been beating the drums for a military attack on Iran.

Iranian authorities have repeatedly denied there is any military dimension to the country’s nuclear activities.
