Syria – Iran Hold Talks On Boosting Bilateral Cooperation

Syria’s Prime Minister Mohammed Naji Otri met Wednesday with Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi to discuss strengthening Syrian-Iranian cooperation and means of boosting bilateral relations in the interest of the two countries, reports the Syrian national media agency SANA.

According to SANA, the meeting focused on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, means of increasing trade exchange volume and exchanging expertise in agriculture, industry and education. Cooperation prospects in gas, oil and infrastructure, in addition to carrying out joint services and development projects were also discussed, SANA reported.

SANA reported that official from both countries “stressed the importance of activating the agreements signed between the two countries and signing new agreements to serve the interest of both countries and materialize the directives of President Bashar al-Assad and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran.”

Otri and Rahimi reviewed the agenda of the 13th session of the Syrian-Iranian Higher Committee, draft agreements and memos of understandings due to be signed in the framework of enhancing the Syrian-Iranian cooperation.

The two sides stressed the importance of activating the agreements signed between the two countries and signing new agreements to serve the interest of both countries and materialize the directives of President Bashar al-Assad and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran.

Earlier, Premier Otri started an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran to head the Syrian side at the meetings of the 13th session of the Syrian-Iranian Higher Committee, SANA noted, adding that Otri is accompanied by an official delegation including Ministers of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Education, Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Industry, Housing and Construction and Economy and Trade, as well as Chairman of the State Planning Commission, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the Prime Minister’s Office.
