Dawood Ibrahim, the key mastermind behind the 1993 serial bomb blasts in India’s financial capital Mumbai which killed more than 250 people, was hiding in Pakistan and owned several houses in Pakistani cities like Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore, said Indian Home Secretary G.K. Pillai on Tuesday.
Dawood Ibrahim is said to be the mastermind who planned as many as 12 bomb blasts on March 12, 1993, in passenger trains killing 257 people and injuring over 700 in Mumbai.
On several occasions in the past 18 years, international media reports and India’s intelligence agencies have suggested that Ibrahim was hiding in Pakistan.
Dismissing Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s contention that Dawood Ibrahim was not in Pakistan, Pillai said that he (Malik) should disclose the terror mastermind’s whereabouts if he was so sure that Dawood Ibrahim was not hiding in his country.
“If the Minister is so sure that Dawood is not in Pakistan, he should tell us where is he. According to our information, Dawood is in Pakistan. We would welcome any more information about Dawood,” said Pillai while speaking to media persons in New Delhi.
Earlier, Malik had asserted in a TV interview that Dawood Ibrahim was not in Pakistan.
