UEFA’s Platini To Resign As President

By

UEFA President Michel Platini announced on Monday his intention to resign after failing in his bid for the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to overturn FIFA’s Ethics Committee ban.

While upholding the FIFA ban, CAS did lower Platini’s original suspension from six to four years and reduced his fine from 80,000 Swiss francs to 60,000.

In a statement, UEFA said that it has taken note of CAS’ decision to suspend Platini from any football-related activity for four years.

UEFA said its Executive Committee will meet May 18 in Basel to discuss next steps, including the scheduling of an elective congress, and added that there will be no UEFA President appointed ad interim.
