Iran Intelligence Source Says Regime Fears ‘Popular Revolts’

Quoted by the opposition “Organization of Ahwazi Sunni Muslims” an official at the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence is saying the authorities fear from chaos in the country and even armed violence in the coming months, amid reports of the weakening regime and the illness of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The official said that intelligence centers in the areas of Kurdistan, Baluchistan and west Azerbaijan wary of “popular revolutions” in addition to chaos and protests in Tehran and a number of major cities.

The intelligence ministry official described the current situation as “disastrous,” adding that the crisis between President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the Minister of Intelligence Heidar Moslehi, who backed by Khamenei, has led to divisions which are widening day after day.

He revealed that there are those in the intelligence ministry who are secretly sympathetic to the opposition leader Mir-Hossein Mousavi. The source mentioned that reports are being circulated in the intelligence community regarding Khamenei’s disease and the lack of consensus on his successor.

Recently, Ali Khamenei urged political figures and the media to stop the “controversy” over a major embezzlement activity within the local banking system. Khamenei said that “the other side wants to take advantage of these events to discredit the officials of the country”, adding that the media can “pursue the case, but should avoid controversy. If some want to take advantage of this issue, it is not in the interest of the country,” the leader said.

The embezzlement worth US$2.6 billion and it is reported that it was headed by a close aide of the president.

Furthermore, a senior aide to Khamenei, said that Turkey must radically reconsider its policy towards Syria and NATO missile shield or face problems with its people and its neighbors.

Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, told the Mehr news agency: “The behavior of Turkish state officials towards Syria and Iran is wrong, and I think they are acting in line with the objectives of America.”
