Iranian Suit Against Russia In Paris Court

By

Iran has announced that the International Court of Arbitration in Paris is processing Iran’s suit against Russia for non-delivery of the S300 missile system and Russia’s failure to meet its contractual commitments.

The Khaneh Mellat website reports that Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi announced that the court will convene today, adding that “the ministry will follow up on this case until it achieves the desired result and serves the country’s interests.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said, however, that Iran has no grounds to pursue this case.

The S300 missile system was purchased in 2005, when Russia committed to delivering the rockets by 2007 for $800 million. However, Russia has halted delivery, saying international sanctions against Iran forbid it from delivering the rockets.

Iran insists, however, that the sanctions do not cover the S300 missile systems.

Salehi, who has appeared in Parliament to respond to questions about the S300 purchase, said officials are also pursuing payment for damages as stipulated in the agreement.
