By

Hamas leader Ismail Haniya said here Sunday evening Egypt is exerting efforts to stop Israeli attack s on the Gaza Strip.

Haniya, who leads the dismissed Palestinian government of Gaza, said in a release: “Our brothers in Egypt are working around the clock to halt the (Israeli) aggression on the Gaza Strip.”

Israel has been launching air raids on different parts of the Palestinian enclave since Friday, leaving scores of Palestinians killed or injured.

However, Haniya hailed Palestinian resistance factions for positively responding to his group’s call for self-restraint versus Israeli air raids on the territory.

Earlier in the day, Palestinian Ambassador to Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Yasser Othman said his country was doing its best and making intensive contacts with Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza to contain the latest escalation.
