Tunisia: Brother Of Deposed President Arrested

The Interior Ministry on Monday announced that the Tunisian security forces managed to arrest Salah Ben Ali, the brother of ousted President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

The Tunisian Ministry said in a statement that the arrest was made late Sunday, in a house located at the city of Sousse (150 km east of Tunis).

The ministry did not say what charges Salah Bin Ali is expected to face.

However, it is believed that like most of those close to the former leader he is accused of financial corruption and using his influence for personal wealth.

The move came after the authorities detained advisers and ministers who worked with Ben Ali.

Three of the President’s closest advisers, Abdelwahab Abdallah, Abdel Aziz Ben Dhia and Abdallah Kallal, were already jailed.

Earlier, the Tunisian authorities have arrested several members of the Bin Ali family the family of his second wife, Leila Trabelsi, on charges of involvement in cases of major corruption, smuggling and looting public funds.
