Kuwaiti Al-Qaeda Commander Killed In Drone Strike On Pakistan
One of al-Qaeda’s top commanders was killed in a drone strike in Pakistan last week, according to reports by the BBC on Monday.
Local Taliban sources told the BBC that Kuwaiti militant, Sheikh Khaled bin Abdul Rahman, known as Abu Zaid al-Kuwaiti, was among 11 killed in a drone attack on the village of Mubarak Shahi near Mir Ali last Thursday.
Abdul Rahman, 46, was the head of al-Qaeda’s religious affairs wing. When top commander Abu Yahya al-Libi was killed in a drone strike in June, many thought that Abdul Rahman had replaced him as number two to Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Unnamed Pakistani intelligence officials told the Associated Press that he was buried on Friday.
Pakistan and the US are yet to officially confirm the death
