Egypt’s military council vows to abide by international deals

Egypt’s new military leadership which seized power after Hosni Mubarak’s resignation has pledged to abide by all international agreements, the statement said on Saturday.

“The Arab Republic of Egypt is committed to all international obligations and treaties,” the statement delivered on state television said.

The military has asked the current government to continue working until a new cabinet is formed.

Saturday’s statement has also called on all state and private bodies to continue operating to ensure the country’s economic development.

Egypt’s army has earlier vowed to hold free and fair elections in the country and carry out democratic reforms.

Mubarak, 82, who ruled the country for almost 30 years, stepped down on Friday after 18 days of heated protests demanding his resignation.

The unrest has claimed the lives of at least 300 people and injured about 5,000.
