Thirteen people were killed and six others critically injured after a tour bus flipped onto its side and skidded into a sign post in New York on Saturday, officials said.
The bus overturned on the New England Thruway in the Bronx around 5:30 am after the driver was “cut off” by a tractor-trailer, according to an account from a witness. The truck left the scene of the accident, officials said.
The Worldwide Tour bus skidded into a sign pole, which sheared off the top of the bus along the window line, nearly two-thirds the length of the vehicle, officials said.
The bus was traveling from Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, to the Chinatown area of New York City, according to accident investigators.
