US: Gunman Kills Two At Clackamas Town Center In Oregon, Before Shooting Himself

A lone gunman opened fire on customers Tuesday afternoon at the Clackamas Town Center shopping mall on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon killing two people and wounding another person – a young woman who is in serious, but stable condition.

Police said they have a tentative identification on the shooter, however they are not releasing the name until it can be “100% confirmed.” Police say the gunman acted alone and took his own life.

No shots were fired by police, according to some reports.

Police noted that four SWAT units were called to the scene, and they admitted that while the situation was chaotic as law officers had to evacuate over 10,000 shoppers in an area of 1.4 million square feet, the response was rapid and “they did it in record time.”

ATF and FBI officials are also assisting at the scene.

At 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to 911 calls of an active shooter at the Clackamas Town Center. Initial reports stated that a suspect armed with a firearm was shooting inside the mall.

Witnesses reported the shooter was wearing a white mask and firing around the food court area on the second floor of the shopping mall.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed at 5:30 p.m. that the suspect was deceased.

At one time there were more than 100 police officers searching the mall late Tuesday looking for more victims, however the Police have now confirmed that there is just the one additionally victim.

Witnesses say panicked shoppers fled the mall when the shooting started. Those who could not get outside hid in back rooms in stores at the Clackamas Town Center. Some witnesses say as many as 60 shots were fired.

Police said the mall will remained closed Wednesday.
