Pakistan: Law Minister Resigns To Plead Bhutto Hanging Case

Pakistan’s Federal Law Minister Baber Awan on Wednesday resigned from his ministry to plead the retrial case of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
The Minister presented his resignation to the Supreme Court as the bench met to reopen the case.
“I prioritise the case on the ministry,” said Awan while talking to reports.
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, founder of ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and father of country’s first female Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was hanged during the military regime of Zia-ul-Haq in late 1970s.
Chief Justice Supreme Court, Iftikhar Chaudhry heading the three-judge-bench adjourned the hearing till Thursday.
He appreciated the decision and remarked the gesture as “historic.”
“We are taking the issue very seriously and will give it due importance,” said the Chief Justice.
