A gun-and-grenade attack in the eastern Belgian city of Liege left four people dead and 75 injured on Tuesday, local media reported.

A man armed with hand grenades and a gun opened fire at the busy central Place Saint Lambert square in Liege on Tuesday afternoon.

Liege Prosecutor Danielle Reynders was quoted as saying that the dead included the attacker himself, a 15-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl, and a 75-year-old woman.

Another assailant has been captured by police, media reports said. Seven of those injured, including an 18-month-old child, are in critical condition, a local official was quoted as saying.

It was not immediately clear what motivated the attack, but Interior Ministry official Peter Mertens was quoted as saying that it did not involve terrorism.
