Both PLO, Hamas Condemn “Blatant” Killing Of Italian

The Palestine Liberation Organization and the Islamic movement Hamas condemned on Friday the abduction and killing of an Italian citizen by a hard-line Islamic group.

Dr. Saeb Oreikat, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) by telephone, “We strongly denounce this blatant crime that does not conform with morals, values and religions of the Palestinian people.”

“We extend our condolences to his family and the friendly Italian people who often send activists to Gaza to express solidarity with us.”

Oreikat, a close to aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, called on Hamas to end “conditions of chaos (in Gaza) and accept the initiative of President Abbas for conciliation immediately.”

He also warned of the negative impact on the Palestinian cause as a result of such crimes.

The Italian human rights activist Victor Arrigoni was found dead on Friday following his abduction by an armed Salafist group. He was located strangled in an abandoned house in northwestern Gaza, which is under control of Hamas.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum also condemned “this shameful and dangerous incident,” saying that the group that committed “this crime sought to restore chias in Gaza.”

In remarks to the Kuwaiti news agency, he said objectives of this outlawed group “conforms with those of enemies of the Palestinian people and cause.” The Palestinian people emphatically reject “what this deviative and unlawful group has done,” the spokesman stressed.

A Salafist group, named “Al-Hammam Mohammed bin Muslima” revealed the kidnapping of the Italian in a video message broadcasted on the internet.
