British Royal Couple Sue French Magazine Over Topless Photos

By

British Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton have launched a legal action against French gossip magazine Closer over its publication of topless photographs of the Duchess of Cambridge, British media reported.

The magazine published Kate’s pictures taken when the couple had been on a private holiday in southern France.

A spokesman for the royal family said the legal proceedings are for breach of privacy.

The spokesman for Clarence House, the Prince of Wales’s office, said the duke and duchess “have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner,” as quoted by the BBC.

Closer’s editor Laurence Pieau said the couple had been “visible from the street,” adding that the photos were “not in the least shocking” and describing the reaction to the publication as “disproportionate.”
