By

Three persons have been killed as violence broke out following the recovery of a headless body of a youth, who reportedly disappeared with a girl, in Madhubani district of Bihar.

The family members of the missing youth Prashant Kumar, 18, claimed that the body was his and demanded that it be handed over to them but police asked them to wait for a DNA report.

The mob turned violent and indulged in violence Friday and Saturday.

Earlier Saturday, angry protesters torched three block office buildings, an equal number of police stations and several vehicles parked there.

They had also ransacked Jainagar railway station and attacked several government properties.

The authorities finally relented and handed over the body to Kumar’s family.

However, the teenaged girl is still traceless.

According to an official of the district administration, after news of the third death spread like wildfire, hundreds of people took to the streets to protest in Jainagar yesterday.

On Friday, two youths were killed after being hit by bullets and over a dozen people were injured after police opened fire at an irate mob in the district.

A 24-year-old-youth, who was seriously injured in police firing, succumbed to his injuries yesterday, sparking fresh protests in the restive region,

Protestors also looted foodgrains from a state food corporation warehouse in Kanjhauli block.

The violence forced Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to defer his ‘Adhikar Yatra’ to Buxar and Bhojpur districts yesterday.

The chief minister ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident and transferred the district magistrate and superintendent of police with immediate effect.
