Japan Quake, Tsunami ‘End Times’ Sign, Say Some Evangelical Christians
The recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami is a supernatural sign that we are living in ‘The End Times”, according to some Evangelical Christian groups. The End Times, or End of Days, is a belief among some Protestant Christian groups that the world will be consumed with natural disasters and tribulations that ultimately will lead to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
Along those lines, there are many Evangelical Christian sites, such as Now The End Begins, that seek to track natural disasters to give a clue to if we are living in the End Times. Others, such as the Rapture Index aim to link events with a scale representing the likelihood that Jesus Christ will appear to take away believers.
Following the recent events in Japan, many Evangelical sites are posting material suggesting the End Times could be upon us. On such example is, “Japan ROCKED!!! ENDTIMES We Are Here! Like it or NOT!” screams a headline in the Godlike Productions forum, with an accompanying video warning viewers.
Popular “End Times” author Tim LaHaye – who was in Hawaii during the tsunami preparing for an End Times conference – has said that the latest Japan disaster is a sign. Speaking to WND, LaHaye said “The Bible tells us in Matthew 24 that one of the signs of the last days – one of the birth pangs to occur – is an increase in earthquake activity and intensity. We’re seeing that happen here. It’s not just earthquakes, but hurricanes and all kinds of natural disasters.”
And there are others.
“As Japan reels from a quake 8,000 times stronger than last month’s seismic shock in New Zealand, and as crippled nuclear reactors ignite nightmarish global concerns of radiation poisoning, even secular media is using phrases like ‘of biblical proportions,” notes a press statement from the Evangelical Christian group White Horse led by Steve Wohlberg, adding, “Sumatra 9.1, Katrina, Rita, massive flooding in Australia, birds and fish dying around the world, bees disappearing, Middle East uprisings, and now Japan’s killer quake.”
The answer, according to Wohlberg’s association can be found in the bible, quoting Luke 21:11,25,26 says “‘There shall be signs,’ predicted Jesus Christ ominously, ‘and great earthquakes in various places … the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them for fear and for the expectation of those things that are coming upon the earth.'”
