France: Hollande Wants To Extend State Of Emergency

(RFE/RL) — French President Francois Hollande has urged lawmakers to extend a state of emergency in the country by three months in the wake of the terror attacks in Paris.
Addressing both houses of parliament on November 16, Hollande said he would submit on November 18 a bill to extend the state of emergency, and urged lawmakers to pass it by November 20.
Hollande also told French parliamentarians that a single, large coalition was needed to fight in Syria and that he would meet U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin in the coming days to discuss the issue.
Hollande said France wanted more effective controls of the European Union’s external borders to avoid a return to national border controls and the dismantling of the European Union.
