Libya: US Looking For African State To Give Refuge To Gaddafi

By

According a report in the “New York Times”, published on its website on Sunday, the United States and its allies, are looking for a shelter to Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, in the case he agrees to step down and get out of Libya.

The newspaper suggested in its report that if Gaddafi step down the hot country will be likely an African one. The American effort in this regard is described as “quiet.” The move is coordinated with the US allies.

The paper noted “that among the difficulties in this process, is the question whether the ICC will prosecute Gaddafi for crimes committed since the outbreak of the Libyan Revolution.”

The Libyan leader will be able to avoid that, if he leaves to a country that has not signed the agreement to establish the International Tribunal.

The newspaper reported that the United States learned a lesson from Iraq, and is currently trying to reach a peaceful solution in Libya.
