Jordan: King Replaces Prime Minister

By

Jordan’s Prime Minister Maaruf Bakhit on Monday stepped down, a government official told AFP.

“Premier Maaruf Bakhit submitted his resignation today to King Abdullah II,” said the official.

Sources said the king is to name International Court of Justice judge Awn Khasawneh as new prime minister.

This move came one day after 70 out of 120 deputies called on Jordan’s King Abdullah II to sack the PM.
